Techstars is the worldwide network that helps entrepreneurs succeed. They host 3-month, mentorship-driven accelerators all around the world to rapidly scale early-stage startups.
As the Design Associate for Techstars Tel Aviv Accelerator, I worked with over 20 startups, partnering closely with their founders to update their branding and produce investor materials. The program ends with a Demo Day where all of the CEOs pitch their company to an audience of over 200 mentors and investors. The key part of my role at Techstars was to design the pitch deck for each company for Demo Day.
Personal Takeaways
Adapting to High-Pressure Environments: Balancing responsibilities across 12 companies honed my ability to deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines
Stakeholder Management: Navigating feedback from founders, mentors, program managers, investors, and peers improved my communication and collaboration skills with diverse groups
Mastering Prioritization: Managing multiple stakeholders in a short amount of time taught me how to effectively prioritize tasks
STARTUP SPOTLIGHT
Dodo Smart, one of the companies I worked with through Techstars, creates educational games in Arabic for children. As they prepared for Demo Day, their materials received last-minute feedback for not aligning visually with their strong value proposition. While the audience of their product is children, the audience for their pitch consisted of investors and adults. The challenge was to balance a design that appealed to both audiences — playful enough for kids but trustworthy for parents. I refined their brand and redesigned their materials using a cohesive visual system that conveyed both playfulness and sophistication, helping them better communicate their mission to potential investors.
